In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ASoC: qcom: q6apm-lpass-dai: Fix multiple graph opens
As prepare can be called mulitple times, this can result in multiple
graph opens for playback path.
This will result in a memory leaks, fix this by adding a check before
opening.
Security readout for executives and security teams
Plain-English summary
This Linux kernel issue can leak memory when a Qualcomm audio playback path is prepared more than once. The business impact appears most likely to be reliability or availability degradation, not data theft, but the public record does not provide CVSS, exploitability, or operational impact detail.
Executive priority
Track and patch through normal kernel maintenance, with higher priority for Qualcomm-based fleets where audio reliability matters. Current public evidence does not justify emergency response by itself.
Technical view
The fix is in the Qualcomm ASoC q6apm-lpass-dai driver. The vulnerable behavior allows multiple graph opens on the playback path because prepare may be called repeatedly. The kernel stable commits add a check before opening, preventing repeated opens and the resulting memory leak.
Likely exposure
Exposure is most relevant to Linux systems using the Qualcomm LPASS ASoC q6apm-lpass-dai audio path. Confirm against kernel version, downstream vendor kernel patches, and whether this driver and hardware path are present.
Exploitation context
The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing, active exploitation, public exploit details, or CVSS scoring. Treat this as an availability-risk kernel driver flaw until vendor or distribution guidance provides more precise impact.
Researcher notes
The evidence is limited to the Linux CVE text and stable commit references. The issue is a repeated prepare/open state bug causing memory leaks in the playback graph path. No exploit prerequisites, trigger scope, or fix version mapping beyond the supplied affected data are fully described.
Mitigation direction
Apply a kernel update that includes the referenced stable fixes.
Check Linux distribution or device vendor advisories for backported fixes.
Prioritize Qualcomm-based systems using the affected audio driver path.
If patching is delayed, reduce exposure of affected audio functionality where operationally feasible.
Validation and detection
Inventory kernel versions and downstream vendor patch levels.
Confirm whether q6apm-lpass-dai or related Qualcomm ASoC support is enabled.
Map deployed kernels against the CVE record and stable commit references.
Monitor vendor advisories for CVSS, affected ranges, and backport confirmation.
