CVE-2026-45992: ALSA: caiaq: Fix potentially leftover ep1_in_urb at error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: caiaq: Fix potentially leftover ep1_in_urb at error path The previous fix for handling the error from setup_card() missed that an internal URB cdev->ep1_in_urb might have been already submitted beforehand. In the normal case, this URB gets killed at the disconnection, but in the error path, we didn't do it, hence there can be a potential leak. Fix it in the error path for setup_card(), too.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2026-45992 is a Linux kernel issue in the ALSA caiaq USB audio driver. During an error path, an internal USB request could remain submitted instead of being cleaned up, creating a potential resource leak. The public record does not provide CVSS, CWE, or impact detail.

Executive priority

Treat as a routine kernel maintenance item unless your environment depends on affected USB audio driver paths. There is no cited active exploitation or severity score, but kernel updates should still be tracked through normal vulnerability management.

Technical view

The resolved bug concerns cdev->ep1_in_urb in the ALSA caiaq driver. setup_card() error handling could miss cleanup after the URB was already submitted. Normal disconnect cleanup killed the URB, but the setup error path did not. Kernel stable commits add error-path cleanup.

Likely exposure

Exposure appears limited to Linux systems running affected kernel builds with the ALSA caiaq driver path relevant to supported USB audio hardware. The source lists Linux 7.1-rc1 through 7.1-rc2 as affected and provides multiple stable commit references.

Exploitation context

No source in the bundle reports active exploitation, public exploit availability, or inclusion in CISA KEV. The described condition is a potential leak during driver setup failure, not a documented remote attack path.

Researcher notes

The public evidence is narrow: a kernel commit message describing a missed URB cleanup in setup_card() error handling. Impact, attacker prerequisites, and triggering conditions are not fully characterized in the supplied sources.

Mitigation direction

  • Apply the relevant Linux stable kernel update containing the referenced fix.
  • Check your distribution kernel advisory for backported caiaq driver fixes.
  • Prioritize systems using ALSA caiaq-supported USB audio hardware or custom kernels.
  • Avoid direct wrangler deploy equivalent operational shortcuts; follow normal kernel change controls.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory running kernel versions and compare them with distribution fixed builds.
  • Check whether the caiaq ALSA driver is present or loadable on affected systems.
  • Review kernel package changelogs for the referenced stable commit IDs.
  • Confirm post-update kernels include the caiaq setup_card() error-path cleanup.
