CVE-2026-25778: SWITCH EV swtchenergy.com Insufficient Session Expiration

The WebSocket backend uses charging station identifiers to uniquely associate sessions but allows multiple endpoints to connect using the same session identifier. This implementation results in predictable session identifiers and enables session hijacking or shadowing, where the most recent connection displaces the legitimate charging station and receives backend commands intended for that station. This vulnerability may allow unauthorized users to authenticate as other users or enable a malicious actor to cause a denial-of-service condition by overwhelming the backend with valid session requests.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2026-25778 affects SWITCH EV swtchenergy.com. The backend can let another endpoint reuse a charging station session identifier, potentially displacing the legitimate station and receiving commands meant for it. Business impact includes unauthorized session access, disrupted charging operations, and reduced trust in charging service availability.

Executive priority

Prioritize vendor engagement and exposure review. This is not presented as actively exploited, but the affected system supports charging operations and could affect service availability and command integrity. Treat as a high operational risk until SWITCH EV confirms remediation status.

Technical view

The issue is insufficient session expiration/session uniqueness in the WebSocket backend. Charging station identifiers are used to associate sessions, but multiple endpoints can connect with the same session identifier. CVSS 3.1 is 7.3: network exploitable, low complexity, no privileges, no user interaction, with low confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations using SWITCH EV swtchenergy.com charging infrastructure should treat associated charging station communications as potentially exposed. The source bundle lists all versions as affected, but also contains an inconsistent default status field. Confirm applicability directly with SWITCH EV or CISA guidance.

Exploitation context

CISA and CVE data describe possible session hijacking or shadowing and denial of service through valid session requests. The source bundle does not state active exploitation, and KEV status is false. Do not assume exploitation is occurring without additional evidence.

Researcher notes

Key uncertainty is remediation status. The vulnerability description supports session hijacking/shadowing due to predictable or reusable session identifiers. Avoid offensive testing against production charging infrastructure without authorization. Validate through controlled review of session handling, duplicate identifier behavior, and vendor advisory updates.

Mitigation direction

  • Contact SWITCH EV for product-specific remediation or configuration guidance.
  • Review the CISA ICS advisory for any updated mitigations or vendor statements.
  • Restrict unnecessary network exposure to charging station backend services where operationally feasible.
  • Monitor charging station disconnects, unexpected reconnects, and duplicate session behavior.
  • Prepare operational fallback procedures for charging service disruption.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory SWITCH EV swtchenergy.com deployments and associated charging stations.
  • Confirm whether affected WebSocket backend behavior exists in your environment.
  • Check logs for duplicate station identifiers or unexpected session displacement.
  • Verify whether vendor guidance or updates have been applied.
  • Document business impact if charging stations lose backend command integrity or availability.
