CVE-2026-24350: Stored XSS in PluXml CMS

PluXml CMS is vulnerable to Stored XSS in file uploading functionality. An authenticated attacker can upload an SVG file containing a malicious payload, which will be executed when a victim clicks the link associated with the uploaded image. In version 5.9.0-rc7 clicking the link associated with the uploaded image doesn't execute malicious code but directly accessing the file will still execute the embedded payload. The vendor was notified early about this vulnerability, but didn't respond with the details of vulnerability or vulnerable version range. Only versions 5.8.21 and 5.9.0-rc7 were tested and confirmed as vulnerable, other versions were not tested and might also be vulnerable.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2026-24350 is a stored cross-site scripting issue in PluXml CMS file uploads. A logged-in attacker can upload an SVG that may run script when another user opens the related image link or directly accesses the file. Confirmed vulnerable versions are 5.8.21 and 5.9.0-rc7; the full affected range is unknown.

Executive priority

Treat as a moderate web application risk. Prioritize PluXml sites with multiple authors, external contributors, or privileged admin users who may view uploaded media. Do not assume a vendor patch exists from the supplied sources.

Technical view

The issue is CWE-79 stored XSS in PluXml CMS upload handling. CVSS v4.0 is 5.1, requiring network access, low complexity, low privileges, and user interaction. CERT.PL reports 5.8.21 and 5.9.0-rc7 as tested vulnerable. Vendor did not provide vulnerable version range or remediation details in the provided sources.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to PluXml CMS sites where authenticated users can upload SVG files and other users can access those uploads. Risk increases for admin-facing workflows, multi-author sites, or public contributor accounts.

Exploitation context

No active exploitation is reported in the provided sources, and the CVE is not listed as KEV. Exploitation requires an authenticated attacker and a victim interaction with the uploaded SVG or direct file access, depending on version behavior.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to tested versions 5.8.21 and 5.9.0-rc7. Other versions may be affected but were not tested. Avoid extrapolating a fixed or vulnerable range until vendor or CERT.PL publishes more detail.

Mitigation direction

  • Check PluXml vendor and CERT.PL guidance for updates or advisories.
  • Restrict SVG uploads unless business-critical.
  • Limit upload permissions to trusted accounts only.
  • Serve uploaded SVG files as downloads or non-executable content where feasible.
  • Review uploaded media for unexpected SVG files.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory PluXml CMS deployments and versions.
  • Confirm whether 5.8.21 or 5.9.0-rc7 is in use.
  • Review roles allowed to upload files.
  • Check web server handling of uploaded SVG content.
  • Monitor logs for unusual SVG uploads or access patterns.
