CVE-2026-23525: 1panel App Store vulnerable to Cross-site Scripting

1Panel is an open-source, web-based control panel for Linux server management. A stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the 1Panel App Store when viewing application details. Malicious scripts can execute in the context of the user’s browser, potentially compromising session data or sensitive system interfaces. All versions of 1Panel up to and including v1.10.33-lts and v2.0.16 are affected. An attacker could publish a malicious application that, when loaded by users (locally or remotely), can execute arbitrary scripts. This may result in theft of user cookies, unauthorized access to system functions, or other actions that compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. The vulnerability is caused by insufficient sanitization of content rendered by the MdEditor component with the `previewOnly` attribute enabled. Specifically, the App Store renders application README content without proper XSS protection, allowing script execution during content rendering; and similar issues exist in system upgrade-related components, which can be fixed by implementing proper XSS sanitization in the MdEditor component. These vulnerabilities can be mitigated by applying proper XSS protection and sanitization when rendering content in the MdEditor component. Safe versions with a patch incorporated are v1.10.34-lts and v2.0.17.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2026-23525 is a stored XSS flaw in 1Panel’s App Store application detail view. A malicious app README can run script in an administrator’s browser when viewed, potentially exposing session data or triggering actions in sensitive server-management interfaces.

Executive priority

Treat as a timely patching item for 1Panel-managed servers, especially where administrators browse third-party app listings. It is not currently documented as exploited, but impact could be serious if an admin session is compromised.

Technical view

Affected 1Panel versions render App Store README content through MdEditor with previewOnly enabled without sufficient XSS sanitization. The advisory also notes similar upgrade-related component issues. Affected versions are up to v1.10.33-lts and v2.0.16; patched versions are v1.10.34-lts and v2.0.17.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running affected 1Panel versions and using the App Store or related rendered Markdown views. Exploitation requires a user to view malicious rendered content, and the CVSS vector indicates high privileges and user interaction.

Exploitation context

No active exploitation is stated in the provided sources, and this CVE is not marked KEV. The described attack path is publishing or loading a malicious application whose README executes script when rendered in 1Panel.

Researcher notes

The root issue is insufficient sanitization of Markdown-rendered content in MdEditor previewOnly usage. Public details identify the vulnerable rendering path but do not provide exploit status beyond the advisory. Validate fixes by confirming patched versions and reviewing the vendor advisory.

Mitigation direction

  • Upgrade 1Panel to v1.10.34-lts or v2.0.17, as applicable.
  • Restrict App Store access to trusted administrators until upgraded.
  • Avoid viewing untrusted application details or README content in affected versions.
  • Review vendor advisory for any additional 1Panel-specific guidance.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory deployed 1Panel versions across managed Linux servers.
  • Confirm no instance is v1.10.33-lts or earlier, or v2.0.16 or earlier.
  • Verify upgraded instances report v1.10.34-lts, v2.0.17, or later.
  • Review App Store usage and administrator activity around untrusted applications.
