CVE-2026-23496: Pimcore Web2Print Tools Bundle "Favourite Output Channel Configuration" Missing Function Level Authorization

Pimcore Web2Print Tools Bundle adds tools for web-to-print use cases to Pimcore. Prior to 5.2.2 and 6.1.1, the application fails to enforce proper server-side authorization checks on the API endpoint responsible for managing "Favourite Output Channel Configurations." Testing revealed that an authenticated backend user without explicitely lacking permissions for this feature was still able to successfully invoke the endpoint and modify or retrieve these configurations. This vulnerability is fixed in 5.2.2 and 6.1.1.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2026-23496 is a broken authorization issue in Pimcore Web2Print Tools Bundle. An authenticated backend user without the intended permission could access the API for “Favourite Output Channel Configurations” and read or change those settings. This is not described as remotely exploitable without login. Fixed versions are 5.2.2 and 6.1.1.

Executive priority

Treat as a routine but timely access-control fix. Prioritize faster where many backend users exist, external partners have accounts, or output channel settings affect business workflows. No source indicates active exploitation or critical business disruption.

Technical view

The flaw is CWE-284: missing function-level authorization on the server-side endpoint that manages Favourite Output Channel Configurations. CVSS 3.1 is 5.4: network-accessible, low complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, with low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact. Affected versions are before 5.2.2 and 6.0.0-RC1 through before 6.1.1.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to Pimcore environments using the Web2Print Tools Bundle with backend users who can authenticate but should not manage Favourite Output Channel Configurations. Risk depends on whether the bundle is installed and whether untrusted or broadly provisioned backend accounts exist.

Exploitation context

Sources do not report active exploitation, public weaponization, or KEV listing. Exploitation requires an authenticated backend user and targets configuration retrieval or modification, not unauthenticated compromise or code execution based on the provided record.

Researcher notes

The advisory describes an authorization bypass on a specific management endpoint. The public fix references pull request 108 and commit 7714452a04b9f9b077752784af4b8d0b05e464a1. Analysis should focus on server-side permission enforcement and regression testing for unauthorized authenticated backend roles.

Mitigation direction

  • Upgrade Web2Print Tools Bundle to 5.2.2 or 6.1.1 as applicable.
  • Review Pimcore and bundle vendor advisory for environment-specific upgrade guidance.
  • Limit backend access to trusted users until patched.
  • Audit backend roles and remove unnecessary access.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Pimcore instances using Web2Print Tools Bundle.
  • Check installed bundle version against fixed versions 5.2.2 and 6.1.1.
  • Review backend user accounts with access to Web2Print functionality.
  • Check logs for unexpected Favourite Output Channel Configuration changes.
