CVE-2026-21933: Vulnerability in the Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition product of O...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition product of Oracle Java SE (component: Networking). Supported versions that are affected are Oracle Java SE: 8u471, 8u471-b50, 8u471-perf, 11.0.29, 17.0.17, 21.0.9, 25.0.1; Oracle GraalVM for JDK: 17.0.17 and 21.0.9; Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition: 21.3.16. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM for JDK, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition accessible data. Note: This vulnerability can be exploited by using APIs in the specified Component, e.g., through a web service which supplies data to the APIs. This vulnerability also applies to Java deployments, typically in clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets, that load and run untrusted code (e.g., code that comes from the internet) and rely on the Java sandbox for security. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.1 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This is a medium-severity Oracle Java/GraalVM networking vulnerability. An unauthenticated network attacker could trigger it through multiple protocols, but a separate user must interact. Successful exploitation can read or change some data accessible to the affected runtime, and impact may extend to products using it.

Executive priority

Treat this as a scheduled security update with targeted urgency for internet-facing Java services and legacy client Java deployments. It is not marked as actively exploited in the provided sources, but it affects widely deployed runtimes.

Technical view

CVE-2026-21933 affects listed Oracle Java SE, GraalVM for JDK, and GraalVM Enterprise Edition versions in the Networking component. CVSS is 6.1 with network access, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, and low confidentiality and integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where affected Java or GraalVM builds process attacker-influenced networking data, including web services supplying data to relevant APIs. Client-side sandboxed Java Web Start or applet deployments that load untrusted code are also called out.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or confirmed active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable over the network, but requiring human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Oracle notes exploitation may occur through APIs in the Networking component, including data supplied by web services. The CVE does not provide CWE, root-cause detail, proof of concept, fixed versions, or product-specific Siemens details in the supplied bundle.

Mitigation direction

  • Check Oracle’s January 2026 CPU for fixed Java and GraalVM builds.
  • Prioritize replacing affected Java SE and GraalVM versions listed in the CVE.
  • Review Siemens SSA-032379 if Siemens products are in scope.
  • Reduce exposure of services passing untrusted network data into Java Networking APIs.
  • Avoid relying on Java sandboxing for untrusted internet-sourced code.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Java SE and GraalVM runtime versions across servers, desktops, and build images.
  • Flag versions matching 8u471, 11.0.29, 17.0.17, 21.0.9, 25.0.1, or listed GraalVM builds.
  • Identify applications using Java Networking APIs with externally supplied data.
  • Check for legacy Java Web Start or applet use with untrusted code.
  • Confirm vendor advisories for embedded or third-party Java runtimes.
