CVE-2024-13592: Team Builder For WPBakery Page Builder(Formerly Visual Composer) <= 1.0 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Local File Inclusion

The Team Builder For WPBakery Page Builder(Formerly Visual Composer) plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Local File Inclusion in all versions up to, and including, 1.0 via the 'team-builder-vc' shortcode. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to include and execute arbitrary files on the server, allowing the execution of any PHP code in those files. This can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where images and other “safe” file types can be uploaded and included.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This WordPress plugin flaw lets a logged-in user with Contributor access or higher make the site include local server files through a shortcode. In some hosting setups, that can expose sensitive data or execute PHP code, turning a low-privileged account into a serious site compromise path.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority on public WordPress sites, especially where many users can create content. The risk is most urgent if Contributor access is broadly assigned or uploads are enabled for low-privileged users.

Technical view

CVE-2024-13592 is a CWE-98 local file inclusion issue in Team Builder For WPBakery Page Builder up to and including version 1.0. The vulnerable path is associated with the team-builder-vc shortcode. The CVSS 3.1 score is 7.5, with low privileges required and high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to WordPress sites with this plugin installed at version 1.0 or earlier and with Contributor-level or higher accounts. The source bundle does not prove broader product exposure beyond this plugin.

Exploitation context

The bundle does not indicate CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Contributor level or above and is rated high complexity, but successful abuse may lead to data exposure or code execution.

Researcher notes

The key research focus is confirming shortcode input handling against the referenced plugin source. Evidence supports authenticated LFI with potential PHP execution, but the bundle does not provide exploit-in-the-wild confirmation or a named fixed version.

Mitigation direction

  • Inventory WordPress sites for this plugin and affected versions.
  • Disable or remove the plugin where business use is not required.
  • Check vendor and Wordfence guidance for any fixed release or official mitigation.
  • Restrict Contributor-level access to trusted accounts only.
  • Review upload permissions and block unnecessary file upload capability.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether the plugin is installed and at version 1.0 or earlier.
  • Review WordPress users with Contributor, Author, Editor, or Administrator roles.
  • Check content for unexpected use of the team-builder-vc shortcode.
  • Review recent uploads for unusual files or disguised PHP content.
  • Inspect server and WordPress logs for suspicious shortcode or file inclusion activity.
