Security readout for executives and security teams
CVE-2023-22527 is a critical remote code execution flaw in older Atlassian Confluence Data Center and Server. An attacker can exploit a vulnerable internet-facing instance without logging in, which can lead to full system compromise. Atlassian says affected customers must take immediate action. Highest exposure is self-managed Confluence Data Center or Server reachable from the internet or untrusted networks, especially older 8.x or pre-8.0 instances identified in the CVE data. Treat this as an immediate executive priority for any self-managed Confluence exposure. The combination of unauthenticated RCE, CVSS 10.0, and CISA KEV listing creates credible business risk of compromise and disruption. Mitigation focus: Upgrade affected Confluence Data Center and Server instances to the latest supported version Atlassian recommends.; Check Atlassian advisory and Jira issue for exact affected-version and remediation guidance.; Restrict external access to Confluence until remediation is verified..
