CVE-2022-28867: An issue was discovered in Nokia NetAct 22 through the Administration of Measurements website section.

An issue was discovered in Nokia NetAct 22 through the Administration of Measurements website section. A malicious user can edit or add the templateName parameter in order to include JavaScript code, which is then stored and executed by a victim's web browser. The most common mechanism for delivering malicious content is to include it as a parameter in a URL that is posted publicly or e-mailed directly to victims. Here, the /aom/html/EditTemplate.jsf and /aom/html/ViewAllTemplatesPage.jsf templateName parameter is used.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2022-28867 is a stored cross-site scripting issue in Nokia NetAct 22's Administration of Measurements area. A malicious user can place JavaScript in a templateName value, causing a later victim's browser to run it. Business impact depends on who can access that NetAct function and what privileges victims hold.

Executive priority

Treat this as a targeted administrative-portal risk, not a confirmed emergency. Prioritize if NetAct 22 is deployed in production telecom operations or accessible beyond a small trusted admin group. Lack of CVSS and patch detail limits certainty.

Technical view

The CVE describes templateName injection in /aom/html/EditTemplate.jsf and /aom/html/ViewAllTemplatesPage.jsf. JavaScript can be stored through that parameter and executed when viewed by another user. The record does not provide CVSS, CWE, fixed versions, or a vendor mitigation path.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely in environments running Nokia NetAct 22 where the Administration of Measurements web section is available to users. The source bundle does not establish whether instances are internet-facing, whether authentication is required, or whether later NetAct versions are affected.

Exploitation context

The record describes a malicious user adding or editing templateName content and delivering malicious content through a public or emailed URL. There is no KEV listing and no cited source in the bundle confirms active exploitation in the wild.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE description and two TIM Red Team reference pages. The affected parameter and paths are specific, but the bundle lacks vulnerable build ranges, authentication assumptions, proof of fix, and independent exploitation reporting.

Mitigation direction

  • Check Nokia NetAct support channels for fixed versions or official workarounds.
  • Restrict Administration of Measurements access to trusted users and trusted networks.
  • Monitor AOM templateName values for script-like or unexpected markup content.
  • Review logs for unusual access to the two affected JSF paths.
  • Warn NetAct administrators against opening untrusted AOM links.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Nokia NetAct deployments and confirm whether version 22 is present.
  • Confirm whether Administration of Measurements is enabled and reachable.
  • Review access controls for /aom/html/EditTemplate.jsf and /aom/html/ViewAllTemplatesPage.jsf.
  • Inspect existing templates for suspicious templateName content.
  • Check vendor advisories or support cases for patch status.
