CVE-2021-44499: An issue was discovered in FIS GT.M through V7.0-000 (related to the YottaDB code base).

An issue was discovered in FIS GT.M through V7.0-000 (related to the YottaDB code base). Using crafted input, an attacker can cause a call to $Extract to force an signed integer holding the size of a buffer to take on a large negative number, which is then used as the length of a memcpy call that occurs on the stack, causing a buffer overflow.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2021-44499 is a memory corruption issue in FIS GT.M through V7.0-000. Crafted input can make $Extract mishandle a buffer length and overflow stack memory. The supplied sources do not confirm active exploitation, CVSS severity, or a complete impact statement. Exposure is most likely where FIS GT.M through V7.0-000, or related YottaDB-derived code paths, process attacker-controlled or untrusted input reaching $Extract. Prioritize identification and upgrade planning for systems using GT.M in business-critical or externally influenced workflows. The bug is serious because stack overflows can affect availability and potentially integrity, but exploitation evidence is incomplete. Mitigation focus: Inventory FIS GT.M and related YottaDB deployments and versions.; Treat GT.M through V7.0-000 as potentially affected.; Review vendor release notes and issue 828 for fixed-version guidance..
