Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-35616 affects Oracle Transportation Management 6.4.3. A low-privileged user who can reach the application over HTTP could read some accessible data and make unauthorized changes to some data. The impact is limited to confidentiality and integrity; availability impact is not reported.

Executive priority

Address in normal vulnerability remediation cycles, with higher urgency for externally reachable or widely accessible OTM deployments. Business risk is unauthorized data viewing and modification in a logistics platform, not reported service outage.

Technical view

The CVE is in Oracle Transportation Management, UI Infrastructure component. CVSS 3.1 is 5.4 with network attack vector, low complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, low confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Oracle Transportation Management 6.4.3 is deployed and reachable over HTTP by authenticated low-privileged users. The bundle does not identify other affected versions or products.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not cite active exploitation, public exploit availability, or KEV listing. Treat exploitation status as unconfirmed; the CVSS vector indicates exploitation is technically easy once a low-privileged account and network access exist.

Researcher notes

Public details are sparse. No CWE or root-cause detail is provided in the bundle, and only Oracle Transportation Management 6.4.3 is named. Avoid extrapolating to other Oracle Supply Chain products or versions without vendor confirmation.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle October 2021 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply available Oracle vendor fixes for affected OTM 6.4.3 systems.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Oracle Transportation Management to trusted networks.
  • Limit low-privileged account access to only required users.
  • Monitor for unexpected data reads, updates, inserts, or deletes.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle Transportation Management deployments and confirm version 6.4.3 exposure.
  • Check patch status against Oracle October 2021 CPU guidance.
  • Confirm OTM HTTP access is not broadly reachable.
  • Review role assignments for unnecessary low-privileged access.
  • Inspect logs for unusual data modification or read activity.
