Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This Oracle E-Business Suite issue could let an unauthenticated web attacker tamper with or read limited Oracle Applications Manager data if a user is involved. The business concern is data integrity and confidentiality in systems that may support finance, operations, or enterprise administration.

Executive priority

Treat this as a moderate-priority Oracle E-Business Suite remediation item, especially where Applications Manager is exposed beyond tightly controlled administrator networks.

Technical view

CVE-2021-35580 affects Oracle Applications Manager View Reports in E-Business Suite versions 12.1.3 and 12.2.3 through 12.2.10. It is network-accessible over HTTP, low complexity, requires no privileges, and requires user interaction. CVSS is 6.1 with changed scope, low confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Likely exposure is limited to organizations running affected Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Manager versions with HTTP access reachable by potential attackers. Internet-facing or broadly accessible internal deployments carry higher concern.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show active exploitation, and KEV status is false. Exploitation is described as easy and unauthenticated over HTTP, but it requires human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. The key traits are unauthenticated HTTP reachability, required user interaction, changed scope, and limited read/write impact to Applications Manager accessible data, with possible significant impact to additional products.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle October 2021 CPU guidance for the applicable E-Business Suite remediation.
  • Prioritize remediation for Applications Manager versions 12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Applications Manager to trusted users and networks where feasible.
  • Consult Oracle Support for customized or hard-to-patch E-Business Suite deployments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances and confirm Applications Manager versions.
  • Identify whether Applications Manager HTTP endpoints are internet-facing or broadly reachable internally.
  • Confirm whether Oracle October 2021 CPU remediation was applied.
  • Review logs for suspicious View Reports activity involving unexpected users or data changes.
