Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

Oracle E-Business Suite Shipping Execution has a high-severity flaw in Workflow Events. A low-privileged user who can reach the service over HTTP could read, create, delete, or change critical Shipping Execution data. This is a business data integrity and confidentiality issue, not an availability-focused outage risk.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for Oracle EBS environments handling shipping or order fulfillment data. The main risk is unauthorized access or tampering with critical operational data by an authenticated low-privileged user.

Technical view

CVE-2021-35563 affects Oracle Shipping Execution in Oracle E-Business Suite versions 12.2.6 through 12.2.10. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1: network attack vector, low complexity, low privileges, no user interaction, unchanged scope, high confidentiality and integrity impact, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Oracle E-Business Suite includes Shipping Execution versions 12.2.6-12.2.10 and HTTP access is available to authenticated low-privileged users.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. The CVE states exploitation is easy for a low-privileged attacker with HTTP network access, but no public exploit status is cited here.

Researcher notes

The source bundle does not include CWE mapping, root cause detail, or proof-of-concept information. Validation should focus on version exposure, patch status, HTTP reachability, and whether low-privileged users can access affected Shipping Execution workflows.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's October 2021 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply the relevant Oracle E-Business Suite security updates for affected versions.
  • Limit HTTP access to Oracle EBS to trusted networks and users.
  • Review low-privileged account access to Shipping Execution workflows.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances and enabled Shipping Execution components.
  • Confirm whether versions 12.2.6 through 12.2.10 are present.
  • Verify the Oracle October 2021 CPU or later relevant fixes are applied.
  • Check whether HTTP access is reachable by low-privileged accounts.
  • Review audit logs for unauthorized Shipping Execution data changes.
