The web administration server in Solar-Log 500 before 2.8.2 Build 52 does not require authentication, which allows remote attackers to gain administrative privileges by connecting to the server. As a result, the attacker can modify configuration files and change the system status. Fixed with 3.0.0-60 11.10.2013 for SL 200, 500, 1000 / not existing for SL 250, 300, 1200, 2000, SL 50 Gateway, SL Base.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-34543 is an authentication failure in the Solar-Log 500 web administration server. A remote person who can reach the web interface may obtain administrative privileges without logging in, allowing configuration changes and system status changes. The source bundle does not show confirmed active exploitation.

Executive priority

Treat this as high priority for any reachable Solar-Log 500 deployment because it can permit remote administrative control without credentials. Prioritize discovery, exposure reduction, and firmware validation before broader operational cleanup.

Technical view

The CVE record describes missing authentication on the Solar-Log 500 web administration server before 2.8.2 Build 52. Remote access to the administration service can result in administrative control. The description cites a fixed firmware line for SL 200, 500, and 1000, and says the issue does not exist for several other Solar-Log models.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Solar-Log 500 administration interfaces are reachable from untrusted networks or the internet and run affected pre-fix firmware. Solar monitoring deployments at remote sites may be overlooked in normal IT asset inventories.

Exploitation context

The source bundle includes an Exploit-DB reference, indicating public exploit material exists. However, KEV is false and the provided sources do not establish active exploitation in the wild.

Researcher notes

The evidence is specific but incomplete: no CVSS, CWE, or structured affected CPE data is supplied. The CVE text is the primary authority for affected version detail. Avoid expanding scope beyond Solar-Log 500 unless vendor documentation confirms applicability.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Solar-Log 500 systems and record firmware versions.
  • Update affected systems using Solar-Log vendor firmware guidance where applicable.
  • Remove internet exposure for the web administration interface.
  • Restrict administration access with firewall, VPN, or trusted management networks.
  • Review configuration files and system status for unauthorized changes.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether any Solar-Log 500 device runs before 2.8.2 Build 52.
  • Verify the administration interface requires authentication before privileged actions.
  • Check external attack surface records for exposed Solar-Log web interfaces.
  • Review recent configuration and status changes for unexpected modifications.
  • Confirm model applicability against Solar-Log firmware guidance.
