CVE-2021-33702: Under certain conditions, NetWeaver Enterprise Portal, versions - 7.10, 7.11, 7.20, 7.30, 7.31, 7.40, 7.50,...

Under certain conditions, NetWeaver Enterprise Portal, versions - 7.10, 7.11, 7.20, 7.30, 7.31, 7.40, 7.50, does not sufficiently encode report data. An attacker can craft malicious data and print it to the report. In a successful attack, a victim opens the report, and the malicious script gets executed in the victim's browser, resulting in a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability.

Security readout for executives and security teams

This is a stored cross-site scripting flaw in SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal. Malicious report data can execute script in a user's browser when the report is opened. Because the CVSS impact is high across confidentiality, integrity, and availability, affected portals should be treated as important business systems needing prompt vendor-guided remediation. Exposure is most likely where SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal is deployed and users can open generated reports containing attacker-influenced data. Internet-facing or broadly accessible enterprise portals increase business risk, but the sources do not define required configuration conditions. Treat as high priority for SAP portal owners, especially if the portal is externally reachable or used by privileged staff. The issue can affect user browser trust and sensitive enterprise workflows, but available sources do not confirm active exploitation. Mitigation focus: Review and apply SAP Security Note 3073681 through official SAP channels.; Prioritize SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal versions listed in the CVE.; Check SAP guidance for supported fixed versions or workarounds..

Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') represents a recurring weakness pattern that can create exploitable paths when design, validation, or implementation controls are missing.
