Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This vulnerability affects Oracle Operations Intelligence within Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. A low-privileged attacker who can reach the service over HTTP could read or change critical Operations Intelligence data. The main business concern is unauthorized access and data tampering, not service outage.

Executive priority

Treat this as high priority where affected Oracle E-Business Suite systems are business-critical, externally reachable, or broadly accessible internally. The risk is unauthorized access to critical operational data and unauthorized modification of that data.

Technical view

CVE-2021-2484 is a network-accessible Oracle E-Business Suite Operations Intelligence vulnerability in BIS Operations Intelligence. CVSS 3.1 is 8.1 with low attack complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, high confidentiality impact, high integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1-12.1.3 with Operations Intelligence enabled and reachable over HTTP by authenticated low-privileged users.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or other evidence of active exploitation. The vulnerability is still serious because exploitation is described as easy, remote over HTTP, and requiring only low privileges.

Researcher notes

Public source detail is limited. No CWE or root-cause class is provided in the bundle. Analysis should stay focused on affected Oracle E-Business Suite Operations Intelligence versions, HTTP reachability, privilege requirements, and vendor CPU remediation status.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle Critical Patch Update October 2021 guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply Oracle-recommended updates or mitigations for affected E-Business Suite versions.
  • Restrict HTTP access to trusted networks and required users.
  • Review low-privileged account access to Operations Intelligence features.
  • Monitor for unauthorized data reads, creation, deletion, or modification.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances and confirm Operations Intelligence versions.
  • Identify systems running affected versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Confirm whether BIS Operations Intelligence is reachable over HTTP.
  • Verify Oracle CPU October 2021 remediation status for CVE-2021-2484.
  • Review logs for suspicious Operations Intelligence data access or changes.
