Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-2361 affects Oracle Advanced Inbound Telephony in Oracle E-Business Suite. A low-privileged user with HTTP network access could access or change sensitive telephony-related data. The main business risk is unauthorized data disclosure or manipulation, not service outage.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for any exposed Oracle E-Business Suite deployment using Advanced Inbound Telephony. Prioritize patch verification and access reduction because the impact is critical data access and modification.

Technical view

The issue is in Oracle Advanced Inbound Telephony, SDK client integration. Affected supported versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. CVSS 3.1 is 8.1: network exploitable, low privileges required, no user interaction, high confidentiality and integrity impact, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Advanced Inbound Telephony on the listed versions, especially where HTTP access is reachable by low-privileged users.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited evidence of active exploitation. The vulnerability is still serious because it is remotely reachable over HTTP after low-privileged access and can affect critical data confidentiality and integrity.

Researcher notes

No CWE, proof-of-concept, or exploitation details are provided in the bundle. Validation should focus on version, component enablement, HTTP reachability, privilege boundaries, and Oracle CPU patch status without assuming additional affected products.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle July 2021 CPU guidance for the applicable E-Business Suite patch.
  • Apply relevant Oracle patches for affected Advanced Inbound Telephony versions.
  • Restrict HTTP access to E-Business Suite administrative and telephony components.
  • Review low-privileged account access to Advanced Inbound Telephony functions.
  • Monitor for unauthorized data creation, deletion, modification, or access.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite versions and enabled Advanced Inbound Telephony components.
  • Confirm whether versions fall within 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.10.
  • Verify Oracle July 2021 CPU patch status with Oracle-supported tooling.
  • Check network paths that expose the relevant HTTP interface.
  • Review logs for suspicious low-privileged access to telephony data.
