CVE-2021-2359: Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administrati...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administration). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Marketing. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Marketing, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Marketing accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Marketing accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-2359 affects Oracle Marketing within Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated network attacker can trigger it over HTTP, but exploitation requires user interaction. Successful compromise can expose critical Oracle Marketing data and allow limited data changes, with possible impact beyond the vulnerable component.

Executive priority

Treat this as high priority for Oracle E-Business Suite environments handling customer, marketing, or regulated data. It threatens confidentiality most strongly and can permit some unauthorized data modification.

Technical view

The issue affects Oracle Marketing Administration in versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 and 12.2.3 through 12.2.10. CVSS 3.1 score is 8.2 with network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Marketing in the affected version ranges are exposed, especially where HTTP access is broadly reachable.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or public active exploitation evidence. The CVE states exploitation is easy but requires human interaction.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. The key validation focus is version exposure, HTTP reachability, user-interaction paths, and whether Oracle's July 2021 CPU or later guidance has been applied.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Oracle E-Business Suite instances running Oracle Marketing.
  • Apply Oracle's July 2021 Critical Patch Update or later applicable Oracle guidance.
  • Restrict HTTP access to trusted users and networks until remediated.
  • Prioritize affected internet-facing or broadly reachable environments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle Marketing versions across E-Business Suite environments.
  • Confirm whether versions fall within 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.10.
  • Verify Oracle CPU remediation status through patch records and system baselines.
  • Review exposure of Oracle Marketing HTTP endpoints to untrusted networks.
