CVE-2021-2315: Vulnerability in the Oracle HTTP Server product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Web Listener).

Vulnerability in the Oracle HTTP Server product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Web Listener). Supported versions that are affected are 11.1.1.9.0, 12.2.1.3.0 and 12.2.1.4.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle HTTP Server. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle HTTP Server accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Oracle HTTP Server accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 5.4 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-2315 affects Oracle HTTP Server in Oracle Fusion Middleware. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service over HTTP could cause limited unauthorized reading or modification of data the server can access, but the attack requires a separate user to interact.

Executive priority

Treat this as a scheduled remediation item with priority for exposed Oracle HTTP Server systems. It is not presented as actively exploited in the provided evidence, but it permits unauthorized data read and modification under plausible conditions.

Technical view

The issue is in Oracle HTTP Server Web Listener for versions 11.1.1.9.0, 12.2.1.3.0, and 12.2.1.4.0. CVSS 3.1 is 5.4: network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, user interaction required, with low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where affected Oracle HTTP Server versions are reachable over HTTP, especially internet-facing or partner-facing Fusion Middleware deployments. Internal-only deployments still matter if users can be induced to interact with attacker-controlled content or links.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. The risk is credible because the vulnerability is remotely reachable and unauthenticated, but business urgency is moderated by required user interaction and limited confidentiality and integrity impact.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE record and Oracle CPU reference. No CWE, root-cause detail, proof-of-concept, or exploit telemetry is included. Avoid assuming broader Fusion Middleware impact beyond Oracle HTTP Server Web Listener versions named in the record.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2021 CPU guidance for CVE-2021-2315.
  • Patch or upgrade affected Oracle HTTP Server versions per Oracle guidance.
  • Prioritize externally reachable Oracle HTTP Server deployments.
  • Reduce HTTP exposure for affected listeners where operationally feasible.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle HTTP Server versions across Fusion Middleware estates.
  • Confirm whether 11.1.1.9.0, 12.2.1.3.0, or 12.2.1.4.0 are present.
  • Map which affected listeners are reachable over HTTP.
  • Verify patch status against the Oracle April 2021 CPU.
  • Review relevant HTTP logs for unexplained reads or content changes.
