Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-2274 affects Oracle E-Business Tax within Oracle E-Business Suite. A low-privileged user with HTTP network access could compromise tax data, including reading, creating, deleting, or modifying critical records. The main business risk is unauthorized exposure or alteration of financial tax data.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority business data risk for organizations running affected Oracle E-Business Suite versions. Prioritize confirmation of exposure and vendor-guided patch status, especially for systems supporting finance or tax operations.

Technical view

The vulnerability is in the Oracle E-Business Tax User Interface component. Affected supported versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. CVSS 3.1 is 8.1, with network attack vector, low complexity, low privileges, no user interaction, unchanged scope, and high confidentiality and integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Oracle E-Business Suite includes E-Business Tax on affected versions and the relevant HTTP interface is reachable by authenticated low-privileged users.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not confirm active exploitation, and this CVE is not marked as CISA KEV in the bundle. The issue is still serious because exploitation is described as easy and requires only low privileges over HTTP.

Researcher notes

No CWE is supplied in the provided record. The source evidence supports confidentiality and integrity impact, not availability impact. Avoid assuming exploit maturity beyond the CVE description and KEV status.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Oracle E-Business Tax deployments on affected E-Business Suite versions.
  • Review Oracle April 2021 Critical Patch Update guidance for the applicable EBS patch path.
  • Restrict HTTP access to E-Business Suite interfaces to trusted networks and users.
  • Review low-privileged accounts with access to E-Business Tax.
  • Monitor tax data changes for unexpected reads, creation, deletion, or modification.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite versions across production and non-production systems.
  • Confirm whether E-Business Tax is installed, enabled, and reachable over HTTP.
  • Verify whether Oracle April 2021 CPU fixes are applied for affected instances.
  • Review application logs for unusual low-privileged access to tax data.
  • Validate role permissions for users with E-Business Tax UI access.
