Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This flaw affects Oracle Cash Management in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. A low-privileged user with HTTP network access could gain unauthorized access to sensitive Cash Management data and modify or delete critical records. The main business risk is confidentiality and integrity loss in financial operations data.

Executive priority

Treat as a high-priority financial systems issue if affected Oracle E-Business Suite versions are present. The vulnerability can affect critical Cash Management data integrity and confidentiality, but the provided evidence does not establish active exploitation.

Technical view

CVE-2021-2227 is an Oracle Cash Management vulnerability in the Bank Account Transfer component. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1 with AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N, meaning network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation by an authenticated low-privileged attacker, without user interaction, with high confidentiality and integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite Cash Management versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 with the affected component reachable over HTTP.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited evidence of active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable by a low-privileged attacker with HTTP network access.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. The available details identify product, component, affected versions, CVSS vector, and impact, but not root cause, proof-of-concept status, or exploit mechanics. Avoid assuming broader E-Business Suite exposure beyond Cash Management 12.1.1-12.1.3.

Mitigation direction

  • Check Oracle April 2021 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply the relevant Oracle-supported fix for affected E-Business Suite deployments.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Oracle E-Business Suite to trusted networks and users.
  • Review Cash Management privileges, especially Bank Account Transfer access.
  • Increase monitoring for unusual creation, deletion, modification, or access events.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite Cash Management versions in use.
  • Confirm whether any deployment is version 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3.
  • Verify the Oracle CPU fix status through vendor patch records.
  • Confirm the affected HTTP surface is not broadly exposed.
  • Review audit logs for suspicious Cash Management data access or modification.
