CVE-2021-2186: Vulnerability in the Oracle iStore product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Shopping Cart).

Vulnerability in the Oracle iStore product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Shopping Cart). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle iStore. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle iStore, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle iStore accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle iStore accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2021-2186 affects Oracle iStore in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service over HTTP could compromise iStore if a separate user interaction occurs. The main business risk is exposure of critical iStore-accessible data, with some risk of unauthorized data changes.

Executive priority

Treat as a high-priority Oracle application remediation item where iStore is used. The issue can expose critical business data, but the provided evidence does not establish active exploitation.

Technical view

Oracle describes a Shopping Cart component vulnerability in iStore versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. It is network-exploitable over HTTP, requires no attacker privileges, requires user interaction, and has changed scope. CVSS 3.1 is 8.2: AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with iStore enabled on affected versions are potentially exposed, especially where iStore HTTP access is reachable by untrusted users, customers, or partners.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show known active exploitation, KEV listing, public exploit availability, or technical exploit details. Oracle rates exploitation as easy but requiring user interaction.

Researcher notes

Key constraints are unauthenticated network access over HTTP and required user interaction. The CVSS scope change indicates impact may cross product boundaries. Sources do not identify a CWE, root cause, exploit technique, or standalone workaround.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2021 CPU guidance for this E-Business Suite issue.
  • Patch or otherwise remediate affected Oracle iStore versions per Oracle instructions.
  • Prioritize externally reachable or partner-facing iStore HTTP deployments.
  • Confirm dependent products or integrations are assessed because scope can extend beyond iStore.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite deployments with iStore enabled.
  • Check whether iStore versions match 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.10.
  • Confirm Shopping Cart component exposure over HTTP.
  • Verify patch level against Oracle April 2021 CPU records.
  • Review logs for unusual iStore access or data modification activity.
