CVE-2021-2181: Vulnerability in the Oracle Document Management and Collaboration product of Oracle E-Business Suite (compo...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Document Management and Collaboration product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Attachments). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.10. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Document Management and Collaboration. While the vulnerability is in Oracle Document Management and Collaboration, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Document Management and Collaboration accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Document Management and Collaboration accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 7.6 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This flaw affects Oracle E-Business Suite's Document Management and Collaboration attachments component. A highly privileged user who can reach it over HTTP could access critical attachment data and alter some records. The risk is significant where EBS holds regulated, financial, or customer documents.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for EBS environments storing sensitive business records. The privilege requirement lowers broad internet risk, but successful misuse could expose critical documents and alter some data.

Technical view

CVE-2021-2181 is a CVSS 7.6 vulnerability in Oracle Document Management and Collaboration, component Attachments. Affected supported versions are 12.1.3 and 12.2.3 through 12.2.10. The vector is network, low complexity, high privileges, no user interaction, with high confidentiality and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to organizations running affected Oracle E-Business Suite versions with Document Management and Collaboration attachments available over HTTP to privileged users or administrators.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited active exploitation. Oracle describes it as easily exploitable, but requiring high privileges and HTTP network access.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. Scope is changed, and Oracle notes attacks may significantly impact additional products. Patch identifiers and exploit details are not present here; confirm them from Oracle guidance.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2021 Critical Patch Update guidance for the applicable EBS patch path.
  • Apply current Oracle-supported fixes for affected E-Business Suite versions.
  • Restrict HTTP access to EBS administrative and attachment functions to trusted networks.
  • Review privileged EBS accounts and remove unnecessary access.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite versions and confirm whether 12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.10 are present.
  • Confirm whether Document Management and Collaboration attachments are enabled or exposed.
  • Verify Oracle CPU remediation status through patch records or vendor tooling.
  • Review logs for unusual privileged access to attachment-related functions.
