IBM Security Guardium Insights 2.0.1 could allow a remote attacker to conduct phishing attacks, using an open redirect attack. By persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted Web site, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to spoof the URL displayed to redirect a user to a malicious Web site that would appear to be trusted. This could allow the attacker to obtain highly sensitive information or conduct further attacks against the victim. IBM X-Force ID: 184823.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

IBM Security Guardium Insights 2.0.1 has an open redirect flaw that could support phishing. A victim must be persuaded to visit attacker-controlled content, after which a trusted-looking URL could redirect them to a malicious site.

Executive priority

Treat this as a moderate-priority phishing risk. It is unlikely to be an emergency absent exploitation evidence, but affected deployments should be remediated because trusted security tooling can make phishing more convincing.

Technical view

The issue is an unauthenticated, network-reachable open redirect with low attack complexity and required user interaction. IBM and CVE sources describe possible URL spoofing and malicious redirection. CVSS v3.0 is 6.5, with high integrity impact and no direct confidentiality or availability impact in the vector.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to IBM Security Guardium Insights version 2.0.1, especially where users access the application through browsers and may trust links referencing it. The source bundle does not identify other affected versions.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show active exploitation, and the CVE is not listed as CISA KEV. Exploitation is phishing-oriented and depends on user interaction, not direct remote takeover.

Researcher notes

The source bundle names only IBM Security Guardium Insights 2.0.1 and IBM X-Force ID 184823. No CWE is provided. Remediation details are not included in the bundle beyond IBM references, so fixed-version claims should be verified against IBM guidance.

Mitigation direction

  • Check IBM advisory guidance for the official fix or update path.
  • Prioritize upgrade or remediation for any IBM Security Guardium Insights 2.0.1 deployment.
  • Warn users against trusting unexpected links, even when URLs appear familiar.
  • Review security controls for external redirects and phishing-resistant authentication.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory IBM Security Guardium Insights deployments and confirm exact versions.
  • Identify whether version 2.0.1 is present in production or user-accessible environments.
  • Review IBM support guidance for fixed versions or required configuration changes.
  • Check logs and security reports for suspicious redirect-related phishing activity.
