CVE-2020-2890: Vulnerability in the Oracle Applications Framework product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Diagnosti...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Applications Framework product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Diagnostics). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Applications Framework. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Applications Framework, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Applications Framework accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Applications Framework accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2890 is a high-severity Oracle E-Business Suite issue in Oracle Applications Framework Diagnostics. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could compromise sensitive framework data if a separate user interaction occurs. The strongest documented impact is unauthorized access to critical data, with some unauthorized data modification possible.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for Oracle E-Business Suite environments because it can expose critical data without attacker authentication. Urgency is higher for internet-facing or partner-accessible systems, but sources do not support claiming known active exploitation.

Technical view

Oracle reports affected Oracle Applications Framework versions 12.1.3 and 12.2.3 through 12.2.9. The CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N, meaning remote HTTP reachability, no attacker privileges, low attack complexity, required user interaction, high confidentiality impact, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Applications Framework 12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9 may be exposed, especially where HTTP access is reachable by untrusted users. Evidence does not identify other affected versions.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Exploitation is described as easily exploitable over HTTP, but requiring human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Focus validation on version exposure, HTTP reachability, and patch evidence. The source record does not provide CWE detail, exploit indicators, or procedural mitigations beyond Oracle’s advisory reference, so avoid assumptions about root cause or exploit mechanics.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2020 CPU guidance for the vendor-specified fix.
  • Apply applicable Oracle E-Business Suite and Applications Framework security updates.
  • Restrict untrusted HTTP access to affected EBS/OAF systems while remediation is pending.
  • Prioritize systems that handle critical business or regulated data.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances and Oracle Applications Framework versions.
  • Identify any deployments running 12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9.
  • Confirm patch status against Oracle April 2020 CPU guidance.
  • Review whether affected OAF HTTP endpoints are exposed to untrusted networks.
  • Check access logs for suspicious activity, without treating absence as proof of safety.
