CVE-2020-2880: Vulnerability in the Oracle Learning Management product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: OTA Training...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Learning Management product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: OTA Training Activities). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Learning Management. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Learning Management, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Learning Management accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Learning Management accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2880 affects Oracle Learning Management in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service over HTTP may compromise the application if a separate user interacts with the attack. The main business risk is exposure of critical training-management data and unauthorized changes to some records.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority remediation item for exposed Oracle E-Business Suite environments because unauthenticated network access and critical data exposure are both present.

Technical view

The affected component is OTA Training Activities in Oracle Learning Management versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. CVSS 8.2 reflects network access, low complexity, no privileges required, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Learning Management enabled on the listed versions are potentially exposed, especially where HTTP access is reachable by untrusted users or external networks.

Exploitation context

The CVE describes the issue as easily exploitable over HTTP without authentication, but requiring human interaction. The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or confirmed active exploitation.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. Avoid assuming the bug class. Validation should focus on product/version exposure, HTTP reachability, patch state, and whether user-interaction paths exist in deployed workflows.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Oracle Learning Management versions in all E-Business Suite environments.
  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update for applicable vendor fixes.
  • Follow current Oracle guidance for supported upgrade or patch paths.
  • Restrict HTTP access to trusted networks until remediation is complete.
  • Alert users to treat unexpected Learning Management links or prompts cautiously.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether Oracle Learning Management is installed and enabled.
  • Check whether versions fall within 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9.
  • Verify applicable Oracle CPU patches are present in each environment.
  • Review access paths exposing the service over HTTP.
  • Check logs for unusual unauthenticated access and suspicious user-driven activity.
