CVE-2020-2878: Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Mail).

Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Mail). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle iSupport. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle iSupport, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle iSupport accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle iSupport accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This Oracle iSupport flaw can let an unauthenticated attacker reachable over HTTP compromise iSupport if a separate user interaction occurs. Successful compromise can expose critical or all iSupport-accessible data and allow limited data changes. The source bundle does not show confirmed active exploitation.

Executive priority

High priority for affected Oracle E-Business Suite environments. The issue does not require attacker authentication and can expose critical business data, but urgency should be calibrated because the supplied evidence does not show confirmed active exploitation.

Technical view

CVE-2020-2878 affects Oracle E-Business Suite iSupport, Mail component, versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2: network attack, low complexity, no privileges, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality, low integrity, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely in organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with iSupport versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3, especially where iSupport HTTP endpoints are reachable by untrusted networks or external users.

Exploitation context

Oracle’s CVE description says exploitation is easy, unauthenticated, network-accessible via HTTP, and requires human interaction by someone other than the attacker. KEV is false, and the provided sources do not cite active exploitation or public exploit availability.

Researcher notes

Focus validation on exact product/version matching and reachable HTTP attack surface. The vulnerability crosses scope and may impact additional products, but the bundle does not identify which additional products or provide root cause details, exploit mechanics, or specific patch identifiers.

Mitigation direction

  • Check Oracle’s April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply the vendor-supported remediation for affected Oracle iSupport versions.
  • Reduce HTTP exposure to Oracle iSupport where business requirements allow.
  • Prioritize remediation for internet-facing or partner-accessible deployments.
  • Confirm whether unsupported E-Business Suite versions require upgrade planning.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite systems running iSupport 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Confirm whether the iSupport Mail component is enabled or reachable over HTTP.
  • Verify April 2020 CPU remediation status with Oracle patch records.
  • Review access paths from external, partner, and internal untrusted networks.
  • Check web and application logs for unusual iSupport access patterns.
