CVE-2020-2876: Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administrati...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administration). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Marketing. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Marketing, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Marketing accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Marketing accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2876 affects Oracle Marketing within Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service over HTTP could compromise Oracle Marketing if a separate user interaction occurs. The main business risk is exposure of critical marketing data, with some risk of unauthorized data changes.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority where Oracle Marketing is deployed and reachable. The risk is data exposure, with possible unauthorized data modification, but the bundle does not support claims of active exploitation.

Technical view

Oracle reports affected Oracle Marketing versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. CVSS 8.2 reflects network access, low attack complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with the Oracle Marketing component in the affected version ranges, especially where HTTP access is reachable by untrusted networks or external users.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or evidence of active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable over HTTP but requiring human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle, and exploit mechanics are not described. Validation should focus on affected version confirmation, patch status, HTTP exposure, and whether Oracle Marketing is enabled or accessible.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Oracle E-Business Suite instances using Oracle Marketing.
  • Check whether versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9.
  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance.
  • Apply Oracle-provided fixes or supported upgrade guidance where applicable.
  • Restrict HTTP exposure to trusted networks until remediation is complete.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm installed Oracle Marketing version and E-Business Suite release.
  • Verify whether Oracle April 2020 CPU fixes are applied.
  • Review internet-facing and internal HTTP access paths to Oracle Marketing.
  • Check security logs for suspicious unauthenticated HTTP activity.
  • Confirm business users know to report unusual Oracle Marketing prompts or links.
