CVE-2020-2873: Vulnerability in the Oracle Customer Interaction History product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Out...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Customer Interaction History product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Outcome-Result). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Customer Interaction History. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Customer Interaction History, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Customer Interaction History accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Customer Interaction History accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2873 affects Oracle Customer Interaction History within Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could compromise the product if a separate user interacts with the attack. The main business risk is exposure of critical customer interaction data, with some risk of unauthorized data changes.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for affected E-Business Suite environments because unauthenticated HTTP reachability and critical data exposure create meaningful business risk.

Technical view

Oracle describes an easily exploitable Outcome-Result component flaw affecting Customer Interaction History versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2, network attack vector, no privileges, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely where affected Oracle E-Business Suite Customer Interaction History versions are reachable over HTTP, especially internet-facing or broadly reachable internal deployments.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation evidence. Oracle says exploitation is easy but requires human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to Oracle and CVE records. The CVE states possible impact to additional products, but the bundle does not identify those products or provide exploit details.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply the applicable Oracle-supported E-Business Suite security update.
  • Prioritize exposed HTTP deployments and high-value customer data environments.
  • Check Oracle guidance for interim controls if patching is delayed.

Validation and detection

  • Identify Oracle E-Business Suite instances using Customer Interaction History.
  • Confirm whether versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9.
  • Verify HTTP exposure paths to the affected application.
  • Confirm applicable Oracle CPU patches are installed and documented.
