CVE-2020-2872: Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Profile).

Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Profile). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle iSupport. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle iSupport, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle iSupport accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle iSupport accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2872 is a high-severity Oracle iSupport flaw in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker reachable over HTTP could compromise iSupport if a separate user interacts with the attack. Impact centers on critical data exposure and limited data modification.

Executive priority

Treat as a high-priority enterprise application risk if affected iSupport is exposed. The strongest business impact is unauthorized access to critical customer or support data, with some integrity risk.

Technical view

Affected Oracle iSupport versions are 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. CVSS 8.2: network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely where Oracle E-Business Suite iSupport 12.1.1-12.1.3 is deployed and reachable over HTTP. The source identifies Oracle iSupport's Profile component; it does not prove exposure for other versions or products.

Exploitation context

The source states the issue is easily exploitable by an unauthenticated network attacker via HTTP, but requires human interaction. No provided source or KEV status supports active exploitation in the wild.

Researcher notes

No CWE, root cause detail, proof of concept, or named exploit method is provided in the source bundle. Keep validation focused on version, component exposure, HTTP reachability, and Oracle CPU status.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for CVE-2020-2872.
  • Apply Oracle-recommended updates or mitigations for affected E-Business Suite iSupport versions.
  • Restrict HTTP access to iSupport to trusted users and networks where possible.
  • Prioritize remediation for internet-facing or partner-facing iSupport deployments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances for iSupport versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Confirm whether the iSupport Profile component is reachable over HTTP.
  • Verify whether April 2020 Oracle CPU guidance has been applied.
  • Review access controls around externally reachable iSupport endpoints.
