CVE-2020-2861: Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administrati...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administration). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Marketing. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Marketing, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Marketing accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Marketing accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2861 affects Oracle Marketing in Oracle E-Business Suite versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could compromise sensitive marketing data if a separate user interacts with the attack. The main business risk is exposure of critical data and limited unauthorized data modification.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority remediation item for affected Oracle E-Business Suite environments because it can expose critical data without attacker authentication, even though user interaction is required and active exploitation is not evidenced here.

Technical view

The vulnerability is in Oracle E-Business Suite Oracle Marketing, Marketing Administration component. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2 with network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite Oracle Marketing versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3, especially where the affected HTTP-accessible component is reachable by untrusted users.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or other cited evidence of active exploitation. Exploitation is described as easy, remote over HTTP, unauthenticated, and dependent on human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle. Validate only version exposure, patch status, HTTP reachability, and compensating controls. Avoid assuming affected versions beyond 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 or exploitation in the wild without additional evidence.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update for CVE-2020-2861 guidance.
  • Apply the applicable Oracle E-Business Suite Marketing vendor patches or supported remediation.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Oracle Marketing administration surfaces where business permits.
  • Prioritize remediation for externally reachable or broadly internally reachable deployments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite deployments and confirm Oracle Marketing versions.
  • Check whether versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 are present.
  • Verify April 2020 Oracle CPU remediation status for affected systems.
  • Confirm access controls limit untrusted HTTP reachability to Marketing Administration.
