Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2857 affects Oracle Advanced Outbound Telephony in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated network attacker could trigger the issue over HTTP, but a victim must interact with the attack. Successful exploitation could expose critical data and allow limited data changes.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority Oracle E-Business Suite remediation item if affected versions are present. The main business risk is unauthorized access to sensitive application data, with some data modification risk, through an unauthenticated HTTP attack path requiring user interaction.

Technical view

Oracle reports a high-severity User Interface component vulnerability in Advanced Outbound Telephony versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2: network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Advanced Outbound Telephony versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 are potentially exposed, especially where the application is reachable over HTTP by untrusted users.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable over HTTP without authentication, but exploitation requires human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE or root-cause detail is included in the provided bundle. Scope is changed, so Oracle notes impact may extend to additional products. Do not broaden affected product claims beyond Oracle Advanced Outbound Telephony without further vendor evidence.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for CVE-2020-2857.
  • Apply the relevant Oracle E-Business Suite security update or current vendor-recommended fix.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Oracle E-Business Suite interfaces to trusted networks where possible.
  • Confirm unsupported or affected 12.1.x instances have a remediation or upgrade plan.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite deployments and enabled Advanced Outbound Telephony components.
  • Confirm whether versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 are present.
  • Check patch records against Oracle April 2020 CPU coverage for this CVE.
  • Review exposure of relevant HTTP interfaces to internet or untrusted network segments.
