Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2849 is a high-severity Oracle E-Business Suite issue in Depot Repair. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could compromise Depot Repair if a separate user interaction occurs, potentially exposing critical business data and allowing limited unauthorized data changes.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority remediation item where affected Oracle E-Business Suite Depot Repair is deployed, especially if reachable over HTTP. The primary business concern is critical data exposure plus some unauthorized data modification risk.

Technical view

The affected component is Oracle Depot Repair, Estimate and Actual Charges, versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2: network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite Depot Repair versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 with HTTP-accessible Depot Repair functionality are the relevant exposure group.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show active exploitation or KEV listing. The CVE states exploitation is easy, unauthenticated, and network-accessible via HTTP, but requires human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE description and Oracle CPU reference. No CWE, exploit details, or confirmed active exploitation are provided. Validation should stay focused on version, component exposure, HTTP reachability, and Oracle advisory applicability.

Mitigation direction

  • Check Oracle April 2020 CPU guidance for the applicable Oracle E-Business Suite fix.
  • Prioritize affected Depot Repair 12.1.1-12.1.3 systems for vendor-directed remediation.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Oracle E-Business Suite where business requirements allow.
  • Review whether Depot Repair is enabled and reachable in exposed environments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances and confirm Depot Repair version usage.
  • Verify whether versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 are present.
  • Map HTTP reachability to Depot Repair from internal and external networks.
  • Confirm remediation status against Oracle April 2020 CPU documentation.
  • Review access logs for unusual unauthenticated HTTP activity around Depot Repair endpoints.
