CVE-2020-2848: Vulnerability in the Oracle Depot Repair product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Estimate and Actual...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Depot Repair product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Estimate and Actual Charges). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Depot Repair. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Depot Repair, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Depot Repair accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Depot Repair accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2848 affects Oracle Depot Repair in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service over HTTP could trigger the issue if a separate user interacts with the attack. A successful attack can expose critical Depot Repair data and allow limited data changes.

Executive priority

Treat this as high priority for any organization using Oracle E-Business Suite Depot Repair 12.1.x. The main business risk is unauthorized access to critical operational data, with some data-tampering risk. Prioritize externally reachable systems first.

Technical view

Oracle describes an easily exploitable Oracle Depot Repair vulnerability in the Estimate and Actual Charges component. Affected supported versions are 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. The CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N, reflecting network reachability, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite Depot Repair versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 with HTTP network access to the affected component.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show known active exploitation or CISA KEV listing. The issue is still serious because it is unauthenticated over HTTP and Oracle states attacks may significantly impact additional products, but it requires human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE is provided in the source bundle, and the public summary does not identify the exact flaw class. Validation should focus on product/version presence, reachability, and patch state. Avoid inferring broader E-Business Suite exposure beyond Oracle's stated cross-product impact warning.

Mitigation direction

  • Apply Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for Oracle E-Business Suite Depot Repair.
  • If patching is delayed, restrict HTTP exposure to trusted networks.
  • Identify and prioritize any internet-facing or partner-facing E-Business Suite instances.
  • Review Oracle guidance before assuming a fixed version or workaround.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite and Depot Repair instances and record exact 12.1.x versions.
  • Confirm whether any affected version 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 is deployed.
  • Check HTTP exposure paths to Oracle Depot Repair components.
  • Verify patch status against Oracle April 2020 CPU records.
