CVE-2020-2839: Vulnerability in the Oracle Service Intelligence product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Internal Op...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Service Intelligence product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Internal Operations- Search). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Service Intelligence. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Service Intelligence, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Service Intelligence accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Service Intelligence accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This is a high-severity Oracle E-Business Suite issue in Service Intelligence 12.1.1-12.1.3. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could compromise sensitive Service Intelligence data if a separate user interaction occurs.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority enterprise application risk, especially if E-Business Suite is externally reachable. The main business concern is unauthorized access to critical data, with some data modification risk.

Technical view

CVE-2020-2839 affects Oracle Service Intelligence, component Internal Operations-Search. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2 with network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely where Oracle E-Business Suite includes Service Intelligence versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 and the affected HTTP interface is reachable by untrusted users or networks.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited evidence of active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable, unauthenticated over HTTP, but requiring human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

The public bundle does not provide CWE, root cause detail, endpoint names, indicators, or proof-of-concept evidence. Analysis should stay focused on version exposure, HTTP reachability, patch state, and Oracle CPU applicability.

Mitigation direction

  • Apply Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update or current vendor guidance for affected E-Business Suite systems.
  • Restrict HTTP access to Service Intelligence from untrusted networks until remediation is confirmed.
  • Prioritize remediation for internet-exposed or partner-accessible E-Business Suite environments.
  • Review Oracle support notes for any version-specific patch prerequisites or upgrade paths.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory E-Business Suite deployments for Oracle Service Intelligence 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Confirm the relevant Oracle CPU patch level is installed on affected environments.
  • Verify affected HTTP endpoints are not exposed beyond required trusted networks.
  • Review access logs for unusual unauthenticated HTTP activity around Service Intelligence paths.
