CVE-2020-2834: Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administrati...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Marketing product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Marketing Administration). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Marketing. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Marketing, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Marketing accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Marketing accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2834 affects Oracle Marketing in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP access could compromise sensitive Marketing data if they can induce another user to interact. Oracle rates it high severity with confidentiality and integrity impact.

Executive priority

Treat as a high-priority remediation item for any affected E-Business Suite deployment because the stated impact includes critical data exposure and unauthorized data changes.

Technical view

The issue is network exploitable over HTTP, requires no privileges, and requires user interaction. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2 with scope changed, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, and no availability impact. Sources do not provide a CWE or detailed root cause.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle Marketing versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 are the stated exposure group. Internet or broadly reachable HTTP access increases concern.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or confirmed active exploitation. The attack path is described as easy to exploit but dependent on interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to Oracle and CVE metadata. No CWE, exploit narrative, proof of exploitation, or vendor workaround details are included in the provided bundle. Validation should focus on version exposure, HTTP reachability, and Oracle CPU applicability.

Mitigation direction

  • Identify Oracle E-Business Suite instances running Oracle Marketing 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update for the supported fix path.
  • Apply vendor-approved updates or compensating controls according to Oracle guidance.
  • Limit HTTP access to affected E-Business Suite functions where business processes allow.
  • Increase monitoring for unusual Marketing data access or modification activity.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm Oracle Marketing version and E-Business Suite patch level on each instance.
  • Verify whether affected HTTP interfaces are reachable from untrusted networks.
  • Check Oracle CPU April 2020 applicability against the deployed environment.
  • Review access logs for suspicious unauthenticated requests and unusual user interaction patterns.
  • Confirm post-remediation patch status through standard Oracle inventory or configuration records.
