CVE-2020-2817: Vulnerability in the Oracle Scripting product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Miscellaneous).

Vulnerability in the Oracle Scripting product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Miscellaneous). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Scripting. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Scripting, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Scripting accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Scripting accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This affects Oracle E-Business Suite Oracle Scripting versions 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could abuse it if a separate user interacts with the attack. Successful exploitation can expose critical Oracle Scripting data and allow limited data changes, with possible impact beyond the component.

Executive priority

Treat as high priority for affected Oracle E-Business Suite estates, especially if reachable over HTTP. The risk is material because unauthenticated exploitation can compromise critical data, although the provided sources do not establish active exploitation.

Technical view

CVE-2020-2817 is an Oracle Scripting vulnerability in Oracle E-Business Suite, component Miscellaneous. CVSS 3.0 score is 8.2: network exploitable, low complexity, no privileges, user interaction required, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, low integrity impact, no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely in organizations still running Oracle E-Business Suite Oracle Scripting 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3 with HTTP reachability. The source bundle does not provide CPEs or broader affected-version evidence.

Exploitation context

The bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited evidence of active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable over HTTP without attacker authentication, but requiring human interaction by another person.

Researcher notes

The public bundle lacks CWE, CPE, exploit detail, and precise fix identifiers. Analysis should stay tied to Oracle's advisory. The changed-scope vector means impact may cross component boundaries, but the bundle only names Oracle Scripting as affected.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update for the affected E-Business Suite patch path.
  • Apply vendor guidance for Oracle Scripting 12.1.1 through 12.1.3 environments.
  • Restrict HTTP access to affected Oracle Scripting interfaces where patching is delayed.
  • Prioritize remediation for internet-facing or broadly accessible internal E-Business Suite deployments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances using Oracle Scripting 12.1.1 through 12.1.3.
  • Confirm whether Oracle April 2020 CPU guidance has been applied to affected systems.
  • Map HTTP exposure for Oracle Scripting from internet, partner, and internal networks.
  • Review access logs for suspicious unauthenticated HTTP activity around Oracle Scripting routes.
