CVE-2020-2809: Vulnerability in the Oracle E-Business Intelligence product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: DBI Setu...

Vulnerability in the Oracle E-Business Intelligence product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: DBI Setups). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle E-Business Intelligence. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle E-Business Intelligence, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle E-Business Intelligence accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle E-Business Intelligence accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This is a high-severity Oracle E-Business Intelligence issue in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 through 12.1.3. An unauthenticated attacker reachable over HTTP could compromise sensitive business intelligence data if they can induce another person to interact. The main business risk is broad unauthorized data access, with some ability to alter data.

Executive priority

Treat this as a high-priority legacy Oracle risk where affected systems process sensitive business data or are reachable over HTTP. The exposure is serious because authentication is not required, though user interaction is required and no active exploitation evidence is provided.

Technical view

CVE-2020-2809 affects Oracle E-Business Intelligence DBI Setups in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1-12.1.3. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2: AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is remotely reachable over HTTP, requires user interaction, and can impact confidentiality heavily with limited integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations are exposed if they run Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle E-Business Intelligence versions 12.1.1, 12.1.2, or 12.1.3, especially where HTTP access is available to users or untrusted networks.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or cited evidence of active exploitation. Oracle describes the issue as easily exploitable by an unauthenticated network attacker over HTTP, but requiring human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

No CWE is supplied in the bundle. The advisory attributes risk to DBI Setups and notes possible significant impact to additional products, but does not provide exploit mechanics. Validation should focus on version, component presence, patch status, and HTTP reachability.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update for the relevant E-Business Suite fixes.
  • Prioritize upgrading or patching affected Oracle E-Business Intelligence 12.1.1-12.1.3 deployments.
  • Restrict HTTP exposure to trusted networks while remediation is planned.
  • Check current Oracle guidance if patch applicability or support status is unclear.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite deployments and identify E-Business Intelligence versions.
  • Confirm whether DBI Setups on versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 are present.
  • Review patch records against Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update.
  • Verify HTTP access paths to affected Oracle E-Business Intelligence components.
