CVE-2020-2794: Vulnerability in the Oracle Email Center product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Email Address list...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Email Center product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: Email Address list and Message Display). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Email Center. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Email Center, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Email Center accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Email Center accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 8.2 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2794 affects Oracle Email Center in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker reachable over HTTP could compromise the Email Center if a separate user interacts with the attack. The main business risk is exposure of critical Email Center data, with some unauthorized data modification possible.

Executive priority

Treat this as high priority for any internet-facing or broadly reachable Oracle E-Business Suite Email Center deployment, especially where Email Center data is sensitive. It threatens confidentiality most strongly and can also affect integrity.

Technical view

Oracle describes this as an easily exploitable Oracle Email Center vulnerability in the Email Address list and Message Display components. Affected versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.9. CVSS 3.0 is 8.2, with network access, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, high confidentiality impact, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Oracle E-Business Suite includes Oracle Email Center versions 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9 and the application is reachable over HTTP by unauthenticated users.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Oracle states exploitation is unauthenticated over HTTP but requires human interaction from someone other than the attacker. The sources do not provide public exploit details.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to Oracle and CVE records. No CWE, exploit procedure, or active exploitation evidence is provided. Validation should stay focused on product presence, affected version ranges, HTTP reachability, and patch status.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for CVE-2020-2794.
  • Apply the applicable Oracle-supported update for affected Email Center versions.
  • Restrict unauthenticated HTTP exposure to Email Center where operationally feasible.
  • Prioritize systems handling sensitive Email Center-accessible data.
  • Monitor Oracle advisories for any additional vendor guidance.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite instances using Oracle Email Center.
  • Confirm whether versions fall within 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.9.
  • Verify April 2020 CPU or later applicable fixes are installed.
  • Identify whether Email Center is reachable over HTTP by unauthenticated users.
  • Review application logs for unusual Email Center access patterns.
