CVE-2020-2789: Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: User Interface).

Vulnerability in the Oracle iSupport product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: User Interface). Supported versions that are affected are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.8. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle iSupport. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle iSupport, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle iSupport accessible data. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 4.7 (Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2789 affects Oracle iSupport in Oracle E-Business Suite. An unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access could, if a separate user interacts, cause unauthorized changes to some iSupport-accessible data. The documented impact is integrity loss, not data disclosure or service outage.

Executive priority

Treat as a medium-priority remediation item unless iSupport is internet-facing or supports sensitive business workflows. Prioritize confirming exposure and patch status because the vulnerability allows unauthorized data modification without attacker authentication.

Technical view

The vulnerability is in the Oracle iSupport User Interface component. Affected supported versions are 12.1.1-12.1.3 and 12.2.3-12.2.8. CVSS 3.0 is 4.7, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N, indicating network reachability, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, and low integrity impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where Oracle iSupport from affected E-Business Suite versions is reachable over HTTP by unauthenticated users, especially internet-facing or broadly accessible portals.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not identify active exploitation, public exploit availability, or KEV listing. Exploitation requires human interaction by someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE record and Oracle advisory reference. No CWE is provided. The notable risk characteristics are unauthenticated network access, required user interaction, changed scope, and integrity-only impact that may affect additional products beyond iSupport.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for this CVE.
  • Apply the relevant Oracle E-Business Suite or iSupport updates per vendor instructions.
  • Limit HTTP access to iSupport to trusted users and networks where feasible.
  • Review compensating controls for user interaction and unauthorized data modification risks.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle iSupport deployments and record exact E-Business Suite versions.
  • Confirm whether versions fall within 12.1.1-12.1.3 or 12.2.3-12.2.8.
  • Check patch status against Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update.
  • Review access paths to iSupport HTTP interfaces.
  • Monitor iSupport-accessible data for unexpected update, insert, or delete activity.
