CVE-2020-2783: Vulnerability in the Oracle Outside In Technology product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Outside I...

Vulnerability in the Oracle Outside In Technology product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Outside In Filters). Supported versions that is affected is 8.5.4. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Oracle Outside In Technology. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Outside In Technology accessible data. Note: Outside In Technology is a suite of software development kits (SDKs). The protocol and CVSS score depend on the software that uses the Outside In Technology code. The CVSS score assumes that the software passes data received over a network directly to Outside In Technology code, but if data is not received over a network the CVSS score may be lower. CVSS 3.0 Base Score 5.3 (Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2783 affects Oracle Outside In Technology 8.5.4, an SDK often embedded inside other software. If an exposed application passes HTTP-supplied data directly into Outside In Filters, an unauthenticated attacker could alter some accessible data. The sources describe integrity impact, not data theft or service outage.

Executive priority

Treat this as a moderate integrity-risk issue requiring targeted inventory and vendor follow-up. Urgency rises for internet-facing applications that process user-supplied files or data through Oracle Outside In 8.5.4.

Technical view

Oracle describes an easily exploitable Outside In Filters vulnerability reachable by unauthenticated network access via HTTP. CVSS 3.0 is 5.3 with low attack complexity, no privileges, no user interaction, unchanged scope, and low integrity impact only. Actual severity depends on how embedding software exposes Outside In processing.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely in applications or products embedding Oracle Outside In Technology 8.5.4 and processing untrusted HTTP-delivered content through Outside In Filters. Organizations may not know they are exposed unless they inventory embedded SDK usage in vendor and internal applications.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show CISA KEV listing or active exploitation. Oracle states the issue is easily exploitable over HTTP when software passes network data directly to Outside In Technology. No exploit details are provided in the bundle.

Researcher notes

Key uncertainty is embedding context. The CVSS score assumes network-delivered data is passed directly into Outside In code; Oracle notes the score may be lower otherwise. Validate actual data flow before rating local risk.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for Outside In Technology.
  • Inventory internal and third-party software embedding Outside In Technology 8.5.4.
  • Prioritize remediation where unauthenticated HTTP input reaches Outside In Filters.
  • Ask vendors for affected-product guidance if embedded SDK status is unclear.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether Outside In Technology 8.5.4 exists in deployed applications.
  • Trace whether unauthenticated HTTP requests can reach Outside In Filters processing.
  • Verify remediation status against Oracle's April 2020 CPU and vendor advisories.
  • Document lower-risk deployments where data is not received over a network.
