Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-2772 affects Oracle Human Resources in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.6 through 12.2.9. A low-privileged authenticated user with HTTP network access could, with another person's interaction, make unauthorized changes to some HR data. The issue is integrity-focused rather than data theft or outage.

Executive priority

Treat this as a moderate-priority HR data integrity risk. It is not reported as actively exploited, but unauthorized HR record changes can create business, payroll, compliance, or employee-trust impacts.

Technical view

The CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N, scoring 4.1. The vulnerable component is Absence Recording, Maintenance in Oracle Human Resources. Successful exploitation can update, insert, or delete some accessible HR data and may affect additional products due to changed scope.

Likely exposure

Organizations running Oracle E-Business Suite Human Resources versions 12.2.6, 12.2.7, 12.2.8, or 12.2.9 with HTTP-accessible HR functionality are the likely exposed population.

Exploitation context

The provided sources do not show known active exploitation, and the CVE is not marked KEV. Exploitation requires low privileges, network access via HTTP, and user interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE record and Oracle CPU reference. The sources identify affected versions, component, CVSS vector, access conditions, and integrity impact, but do not provide exploit details or a standalone mitigation description.

Mitigation direction

  • Confirm whether Oracle E-Business Suite Human Resources is within versions 12.2.6 through 12.2.9.
  • Review Oracle's April 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for the applicable E-Business Suite fix.
  • Limit HTTP access to Oracle HR functions to trusted users and networks where feasible.
  • Prioritize least-privilege review for accounts with access to absence recording and maintenance workflows.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle E-Business Suite Human Resources versions in production and non-production environments.
  • Check whether the April 2020 Oracle CPU or later relevant security updates are applied.
  • Review HR application logs for unexpected absence record updates, inserts, or deletes.
  • Validate that low-privileged accounts cannot modify HR records beyond intended authorization.
