SAP Fiori Launchpad (News tile Application), versions - 750,751,752,753,754,755, allows an unauthorized attacker to use SAP Fiori Launchpad News tile Application to send malicious code, to a different end user (victim), because News tile does not sufficiently encode user controlled inputs, resulting in Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. Information maintained in the victim's web browser can be read, modified, and sent to the attacker. The malicious code cannot significantly impact the victim's browser and the victim can easily close the browser tab to terminate it.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

CVE-2020-26825 is a reflected cross-site scripting issue in SAP Fiori Launchpad’s News tile. An attacker could trick a user into opening malicious content that runs in the victim’s browser context, potentially reading or changing browser-held information. User interaction is required, and the source bundle does not show active exploitation.

Executive priority

Treat as a normal-priority SAP remediation item unless the News tile is broadly exposed or used by sensitive users. The issue can affect browser-session confidentiality and integrity, but requires user interaction and has no cited active exploitation.

Technical view

The News tile did not sufficiently encode user-controlled input, enabling reflected XSS. The CVSS 3.0 score is 6.1 with network access, low complexity, no privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, low confidentiality and integrity impact, and no availability impact.

Likely exposure

Organizations using SAP Fiori Launchpad News tile Application in the listed 750-755 release range should assess exposure. The provided affected-version notation is inconsistent, so validate exact applicability against SAP Note 2984627.

Exploitation context

The bundle marks this CVE as not in KEV and provides no cited evidence of active exploitation. Abuse would depend on convincing a victim to interact with attacker-supplied content that reaches the vulnerable News tile flow.

Researcher notes

Key evidence is limited to the CVE description, CVSS vector, SAP references, and KEV=false status. Do not assume exploit availability, broader SAP product impact, or a specific patch mechanism beyond SAP Note 2984627 without vendor confirmation.

Mitigation direction

  • Review SAP Security Note 2984627 for affected releases and corrections.
  • Apply the relevant SAP vendor fix or support package if applicable.
  • Inventory Fiori Launchpad deployments using the News tile Application.
  • Limit exposure of Fiori Launchpad to trusted users where business permits.
  • Remind users to treat unexpected SAP Launchpad links cautiously.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm installed SAP Fiori Launchpad and News tile versions against SAP guidance.
  • Verify whether SAP Note 2984627 is implemented in each affected system.
  • Test that News tile user-controlled input is safely encoded in responses.
  • Review web logs for suspicious News tile requests or unusual referral patterns.
  • Confirm vulnerability management records show remediation status per system.
