CVE-2020-14767: Vulnerability in the Hyperion BI+ product of Oracle Hyperion (component: IQR-Foundation service).

Vulnerability in the Hyperion BI+ product of Oracle Hyperion (component: IQR-Foundation service). The supported version that is affected is 11.1.2.4. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Hyperion BI+. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Hyperion BI+ accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 4.2 (Confidentiality impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This issue affects Oracle Hyperion BI+ 11.1.2.4 and could expose critical BI data if abused. The attacker must already have high privileges, network access, and help from another user, so urgency is lower than remotely exploitable flaws. The business risk is data confidentiality, not system outage or data tampering.

Executive priority

Treat as a planned remediation item unless Hyperion BI+ contains highly sensitive reporting data or is broadly reachable. Prioritize confirmation of affected version and vendor patch status over emergency response.

Technical view

CVE-2020-14767 is an Oracle Hyperion BI+ IQR-Foundation service vulnerability affecting supported version 11.1.2.4. CVSS 3.1 is 4.2: network attack vector, high complexity, high privileges required, user interaction required, unchanged scope, high confidentiality impact, no integrity or availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is limited to organizations running Oracle Hyperion BI+ 11.1.2.4, especially where the IQR-Foundation service is reachable over allowed network protocols. The source bundle does not identify cloud exposure, default configurations, or affected unsupported versions.

Exploitation context

The CVE source says exploitation is difficult and requires a high-privileged attacker with network access plus human interaction from someone else. CISA KEV status is false in the bundle, and no cited source states active exploitation.

Researcher notes

The public description gives impact and CVSS details but not root cause, exploit mechanics, or fixed build identifiers. Avoid assuming broader Oracle Hyperion impact beyond Hyperion BI+ 11.1.2.4 and the IQR-Foundation service.

Mitigation direction

  • Review Oracle's October 2020 Critical Patch Update guidance for Hyperion BI+.
  • Apply the vendor-recommended update or mitigation for Hyperion BI+ 11.1.2.4.
  • Restrict Hyperion BI+ network reachability to required users and management paths.
  • Review high-privilege account access to Hyperion BI+ environments.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory Oracle Hyperion BI+ deployments and identify any version 11.1.2.4 systems.
  • Confirm whether the IQR-Foundation service is present and network-reachable.
  • Check patch status against Oracle's October 2020 CPU guidance.
  • Review privileged Hyperion BI+ accounts and recent access patterns.
