CVE-2020-14728: Vulnerability in the SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) component of Oracle NetSuite service.

Vulnerability in the SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) component of Oracle NetSuite service. Supported versions that are affected are Montblanc, Vinson, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, 2018.2, 2019.1, 2019.2. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise NetSuite SCA. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in NetSuite SCA, attacks may significantly impact additional products. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of NetSuite SCA accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of NetSuite SCA data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 5.4 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N).

Security readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

This Oracle NetSuite SuiteCommerce Advanced issue could let a low-privileged attacker use HTTP access and another person’s interaction to read some storefront data or change some SCA-accessible records. The disclosed impact is confidentiality and integrity, not availability, with a CVSS 3.1 score of 5.4.

Executive priority

Treat this as a moderate-priority remediation for any active NetSuite SCA storefront on affected versions. It is not described as an outage risk or known exploited issue, but it can affect customer-facing commerce data integrity and confidentiality.

Technical view

CVE-2020-14728 affects Oracle NetSuite SuiteCommerce Advanced versions Montblanc through 2019.2 as listed. The vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, meaning network-reachable, low complexity, low privileges, required user interaction, changed scope, and limited data read/write impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is most likely where affected SuiteCommerce Advanced versions are still deployed and reachable over HTTP. Risk rises if low-privileged users can access the application and targeted users can be induced to interact with malicious content or workflow.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not identify public exploitation, exploit code, or CISA KEV listing. It states exploitation is easy but requires low privileges, HTTP access, and human interaction from someone other than the attacker.

Researcher notes

Evidence is limited to the CVE description, CVSS vector, affected version list, and Oracle NetSuite help reference. No CWE, specific vulnerable endpoint, patch version, proof-of-concept, or active exploitation evidence is provided in the bundle.

Mitigation direction

  • Confirm whether any listed SCA versions remain in use.
  • Check Oracle NetSuite guidance for the vendor-supported fix or upgrade path.
  • Apply vendor-provided updates through supported NetSuite channels.
  • Review least-privilege access for SCA users and roles.
  • Monitor SCA records for unexpected updates, inserts, deletes, or reads.

Validation and detection

  • Inventory NetSuite SCA sites and map each to its release version.
  • Verify affected versions: Montblanc, Vinson, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, 2018.2, 2019.1, or 2019.2.
  • Confirm whether SCA is reachable over HTTP from expected networks.
  • Review logs for unusual low-privileged account activity against SCA-accessible data.
  • Document vendor guidance reviewed and remediation status.
