CVE-2019-1881: Cisco Industrial Network Director Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Industrial Network Director (IND) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attack and perform arbitrary actions on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient CSRF protections for the web-based management interface of the affected device. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user of the interface to follow a malicious link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to use a web browser and the privileges of the user to perform arbitrary actions on an affected device. For more information about CSRF attacks and potential mitigations, see Understanding Cross-Site Request Forgery Threat Vectors.

Security readout for executives and security teams

Cisco Industrial Network Director 1.5(0.250) has weak protection against forged web requests. If an administrator follows a malicious link while logged in, an attacker could make the browser perform actions in IND using that administrator’s privileges. Exposure is most likely where Cisco IND 1.5(0.250) is deployed and administrators access its web management interface from browsers that can also reach external or untrusted links. Treat as a moderate operational risk for environments using Cisco IND. Prioritize validation in industrial or critical-network management zones, because successful misuse could alter management actions even though the CVSS score is medium. Mitigation focus: Check Cisco’s advisory for fixed releases or official workaround guidance.; Upgrade affected Cisco IND 1.5(0.250) systems if Cisco provides a fixed version.; Restrict IND management access to trusted administrative networks only..
