CVE-2019-1620: Cisco Data Center Network Manager Arbitrary File Upload and Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to upload arbitrary files on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to incorrect permission settings in affected DCNM software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by uploading specially crafted data to the affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to write arbitrary files on the filesystem and execute code with root privileges on the affected device.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2019-1620 is a critical Cisco DCNM flaw. An unauthenticated remote attacker could upload files through the web management interface and gain root-level code execution. For executives, this is urgent because DCNM manages data center networks, so compromise could affect core operational control. Exposure is limited to organizations running Cisco Data Center Network Manager. Risk is highest where the DCNM web interface is reachable from untrusted networks. The bundle does not specify affected versions, so inventory must be checked against Cisco’s advisory. Treat this as a top-priority infrastructure remediation item if Cisco DCNM is present. The combination of unauthenticated access, remote code execution, and root privileges creates high business risk for data center network operations. Mitigation focus: Review Cisco’s advisory for affected and fixed DCNM releases.; Apply the vendor-supported fixed release or workaround if listed by Cisco.; Restrict DCNM web access to trusted management networks only..
