CVE-2019-14418: An issue was discovered in Veritas Resiliency Platform (VRP) before 3.4 HF1.

An issue was discovered in Veritas Resiliency Platform (VRP) before 3.4 HF1. When uploading an application bundle, a directory traversal vulnerability allows a VRP user with sufficient privileges to overwrite any file in the VRP virtual machine. A malicious VRP user could use this to replace existing files to take control of the VRP virtual machine.

Security readout for executives and security teams

CVE-2019-14418 is a critical flaw in Veritas Resiliency Platform before 3.4 HF1. A privileged VRP user uploading an application bundle could overwrite files anywhere on the VRP virtual machine, potentially taking control of it. Exposure is limited to organizations running Veritas Resiliency Platform versions before 3.4 HF1, especially where privileged VRP accounts can access bundle upload functions over the network. Prioritize remediation for any affected VRP deployment because compromise could undermine resiliency operations and recovery infrastructure. Urgency is highest where many privileged users or broad network access exist. Mitigation focus: Upgrade Veritas Resiliency Platform to 3.4 HF1 or later per Veritas guidance.; Restrict VRP administrative access to trusted users and managed networks.; Review who can upload VRP application bundles and remove unnecessary privileges..
