CVE-2019-12682: Cisco Firepower Management Center SQL Injection Vulnerabilities

Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary SQL injections on an affected device. These vulnerabilities exist due to improper input validation. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted SQL queries to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to view information that they are not authorized to view, make changes to the system that they are not authorized to make, and execute commands within the underlying operating system that may affect the availability of the device.

Analyst readout for executives and security teams

Plain-English summary

Cisco Firepower Management Center had multiple authenticated SQL injection vulnerabilities in its web management interface. A low-privileged remote user could potentially access unauthorized information, change system data, or trigger operating-system-level commands affecting device availability.

Executive priority

Prioritize this for environments using Cisco FMC because it affects a security management platform. A successful attack could expose data, alter configuration, and disrupt availability, but current evidence provided does not prove active exploitation.

Technical view

CVE-2019-12682 is a CWE-89 issue caused by improper input validation in Cisco FMC Software. The CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, indicating network reachability, low attack complexity, required low privileges, and high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

Likely exposure

Exposure is likely limited to organizations running Cisco Firepower Management Center where authenticated users can reach the web-based management interface. The provided sources do not identify affected version ranges.

Exploitation context

The source bundle does not show CISA KEV listing or other cited evidence of active exploitation. Exploitation requires authenticated access, but only low privileges according to the CVSS vector.

Researcher notes

Key gaps are the missing affected version matrix and remediation detail in the supplied bundle. Treat the Cisco advisory as the authoritative source for product-specific status. Do not assume exploit availability from the CVE metadata alone.

Mitigation direction

  • Review the Cisco advisory for affected releases, fixed software, and vendor-directed remediation.
  • Inventory all Cisco Firepower Management Center deployments and ownership.
  • Restrict FMC management interface access to trusted administrative networks and users.
  • Review FMC accounts and remove unnecessary low-privileged access.
  • Monitor FMC activity for suspicious authenticated changes or database-related errors.

Validation and detection

  • Confirm whether Cisco Firepower Management Center is deployed in the environment.
  • Determine each FMC software version and compare it with Cisco guidance.
  • Verify management interfaces are not reachable from untrusted networks.
  • Review administrative audit logs for unexpected changes by authenticated users.
  • Confirm remediation status in vulnerability management records.
